6 Tips to Help You Keep Your House Free of Insects Without Chemicals

Pests can turn your cold home into a battlefield. You will probably contact special services to get rid of cockroaches and ants, but all those chemicals that they use are not healthy for humans. Fortunately, there are some safe and effective ways to solve this problem.

1. Get a plant.

Plants not only make our home feel comfortable, but they provide us with oxygen and protect us from insects. Here are some plants that can do this effectively:

  • Lavander
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Mint
  • Lemongrass
  • Petunias
  • Marigolds
  • Mosquito plant
  • Chrysanthemums
  • Alliums

2. Use cucumbers.

It sounds strange, but experts say that it is a completely effective method. Make cucumber slices and place them in the places where you have noticed cockroaches. The smell will drive them away. Also, there are compounds that cockroaches do not like. Once a week, replace the cucumber slices with fresh ones.

The refrigerator is one of the places cockroaches love to visit. Just mash the cucumber and leave it there. Cucumber crushed can repel up to 90% of cockroaches.

3. Use baking soda.

Fight ants and cockroaches with baking soda. There is an active ingredient that works against plant fungi and powdery mildew, and when insects eat it they release bubbles of carbon dioxide that kill pests.

Wet the area slightly with water (you can spray it with a mist) and then sprinkle about 2 cups of baking soda on it. Then wait for half an hour and pour a glass of vinegar on it. It should be a very effective way to keep insects away.

4. Make a trap.

Make a trap using a plastic bottle. You can repeat the same thing shown in the picture. Just add some soapy water afterward.

This homemade trap is a good solution for people who are allergic to chemicals.

5. Use cinnamon.

If you have a problem with pests, cinnamon is a good deterrent. Use cinnamon inside and outside your home. You need to find an entrance to the pests and leave the cinnamon powder in the way. It won't kill insects, but it will prevent them from getting in.

6. Use essential oils.

Not only will this make your home smell nice, but it will stop pests from entering. Simply use peppermint oil. Simply mix 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil with 250 ml (8 oz) of water. Shake and spray it around doorways and windows.

You can also use neem oil. Buy it in a bottle ready to use against pests.
