Review Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max - Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro Max

We have Redmi Note 10 Pro- Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro Max for review, and this is the global version of the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max - a model for India. There are only two differences - the Indian version omits NFC and is not listed under the IP53 rating. Here's a direct link to compare the two.

Exactly one year has passed since the first Redmi Note 9 phones came out, and updates are arriving on schedule. Heading the next generation of affordable mid-rangers, the Redmi Note 10 Pro brings one of the most wanted fan-favorite features - a 120Hz OLED screen.

Xiaomi offers HRR displays at a cheap price. Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G and many Redmi K30 phones had LCD panels with a frequency of 120 Hz to 144 Hz. These devices have become so popular for this reason, and a lot of people, including, were hoping for an OLED upgrade and that this premium feature would become the standard for the Redmi Note 10 series. Talk about a wish fulfilled!

The Redmi Note 10 Pro is based on the limited Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, also known as Mi 10i 5G in some markets, and both were released a few weeks ago. It offers a better HRR OLED display but it comes with the bottom Snapdragon 732G chip instead of the more premium Snapdragon 750G 5G. The rest is mostly the same - the camera, speakers, battery, and fast charging.

In fact, the new Redmi Note 10 Pro may not pack the best mid-range SoC, but it definitely impresses with an interesting quad camera on the back. The main shooter uses Samsung's 108MP sensor, then comes the 8MP ultra-fast camera, followed by the 5MP camera with telemacro lens, and finally, the 2MP depth sensor.

Other interesting bits about the Redmi Note 10 Pro include dedicated symmetric speakers - another feature not widely available on even the most expensive phones (mainstream companies usually prefer hybrid settings). There's also a good-fat 5020mAh battery that's capable of fast charging at 33W, and the corresponding power adapter is included with the phone. Some people will appreciate the presence of NFC, FM radio, infrared amplifier, 3.5mm jack, and microSD expansion.

Redmi Note 10 Pro Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro Max has an IP53 rating for dust and water protection - a very nice touch. This means that the phone is dustproof and can withstand splashes of light or rain. The phone looks like an increasingly better proposition with every new feature we discover, so let's jump into the chase and take that note out of the box.

Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro Max 6.67 inch 120Hz OLED screen

  1. The display saw the biggest upgrade since the Redmi Note 9 series. The new Redmi Note 10 Pro maintains the familiar size - it's the usual 6.67 "that we like in the notes, but it now features a more premium 120Hz OLED panel.
  2. Screen resolutions are the standard 1,080 x 2,400 pixels or 395 pixels per inch. There is a small hole punch hole for the selfie camera, but the snapper is not exactly centered in said hole. Well, that is what it is.
  3. The screen is protected by a notch of Gorilla Glass 5. You also get a factory-applied protective film, although we weren't fond of it because it wasn't aligned well outside of the box.
  4. The new screen supports an adaptive refresh rate of 60Hz and 120Hz. It also has a touch-sensitive layer that works with a 240Hz sampling rate, and the screen feels very smooth and responsive.
  5. There's also HDR10 certification, and in addition to Widevine L1 DRM support, you can squeeze out the maximum quality for any streaming service.

Let's talk about the adaptive refresh rate. You can choose between 60Hz and 120Hz screen options called Standard and Medium refresh rates. The 120Hz option works dynamically, but it's not as dynamic as Samsung's AMOLEDs. Redmi Note 10 Pro's screen always displays 120fps throughout the user interface and all system apps but returns to 60Hz when the image is still for battery-saving reasons.

  • Otherwise - the screen works at 120Hz for supported apps, 60Hz for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, the default Mi Video player, and some games.
  • Xiaomi announces automatic brightness with a maximum of 700 nits (typical), an index of 450 nits (typical), or 1,200 nits (peak) when watching HDR content.
  • We can confirm the brightness of 700nits, 725 nits specifically - when the screen is set to Auto-Brightness or when Sunlight Boost is turned on in Manual brightness mode. Otherwise, the maximum brightness at the end of the brightness slider is 457 nits - again, as promised.
  • The aforementioned peak brightness of 1,200 nits is just that - peak brightness - with only a small portion of the screen occupied with content - most likely when playing an HDR video.
  • Xiaomi offers three pre-defined colors presets - automatic, saturated, standard - each representing a specific color space.
  • The Auto option is set to faithfully reproduce Wide Color Gamut content, but it also adjusts colors to match current lighting (such as Apple's True Tone). In normal daylight conditions in our office, we measured a mean deltaE of 4.1 and a maximum deviation of 7.7 against the DCI-P3 color space - implying good calibration despite the bluish-white and gray hues. If you choose the warm color temperature preset in automatic mode, you get an average delta of 2.4 and a maximum deviation of 4 - and that's an excellent calibration.
  • The standard setting complies with sRGB, and we also scored a deltaE average of 1.3 for color accuracy - which is ideal.
  • Finally, the saturated mode makes the colors pop, no longer as accurate as DCI-P3.

Battery life Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro Max - Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max

  • The Redmi Note 10 Pro is powered by a large 5020mAh battery - more than enough for a device of this caliber and devices, and we expect it to outperform our tests.
  • And I did! Redmi Note 10 Pro has an excellent battery endurance rating of 114 hours. It did great in screen tests even when using a 120Hz refresh rate.

Our Viser app ran a video test at 120Hz, although it turns out that all popular video apps, including the default app, run at 60Hz on the Redmi Note 10 Pro display, regardless of our preferred refresh rate. Therefore, we also performed our test at 60 Hz and it should be more representative. It turns out we didn't get extra hours on web testing, but we did get more when watching movies!

Charging speed Xiaomi Redmi 10 Pro Max - Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro comes with a 33W adapter and a rated 3A USB-C cable. We've already seen this combo on the Poco X3 NFC, so we know it's really fast.
  • So, the included charger gets you from steady to 50% in exactly 30 minutes.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max stereo speakers

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro has what appears to be a decent stereo speaker setup. There are two networks on the opposite ends of the phone, and we can hear balanced sound from there. We can't be sure if the top woofer also works as an earphone or if there is a dedicated speaker somewhere in there, but the important thing is that both speakers seem to be equal and sound just fine.

Usual setup Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max cameras

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro has a quad-camera setup on the back in a familiar arrangement - there's a high-resolution primary camera, followed by an ultra-fast shooter, a macro snapper, and finally, you get a small depth sensor.
  • The main camera adopts a 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 1 / 1.52 '' sensor with 0.7 micron pixels and f / 1.9 6P lens. The color filter is Nona-Bayer, which means that 9 sensor pixels are integrated into 2.1μm, and the output resolution is 12MP PDAF Available although there is no optical stabilization and this is the only camera that supports night mode.
  • This ultra-fast shooter uses an 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor behind an f / 2.2 lens. Focus is constant at infinity.
  • The macro uses a 5MP OmniVision OV5675 1/5 "sensor behind the Tele macro f / 2.4 lens. Autofocus is available in this camera and works at distances between 3cm and 10cm.
  • The fourth and final camera on the back is the 2MP depth sensor GC02M1.
  • The selfie camera uses a 16MP Sony IMX471 1/3 inch sensor with a 20mm f / 2.4 ultra-wide lens.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro Max camera app

The camera app is a fairly straightforward app. So, you can swipe from side to side to change the modes, and you can also click on the ones that you can see to switch to those modes directly. Up and down swipes do not work to switch between front and rear cameras; Only the toggle next to the shutter release does this.

  • At the near end, you have the camera zoom key. On the other end of the viewfinder, you have a flash mode switch, an HDR switch, an AI toggle switch, a Live Photo toggle, and a magic wand with beauty effects and filters.
  • Behind the hamburger menu, you'll find more options, including the macro mode (why here ?!), as well as a shortcut to settings. What you won't find is an option to set the output resolution for any of the cameras.
  • Display Type AMOLED, 120 Hz, HDR10, 450 nits (type), 1200 nits (peak)
  • Size: 6.67 inches 107.4 cm2 (85.6% screen-to-body ratio)
